Aloo Chila Recipe, Crispy Potato Pan Cake Recipe

People who fast give up on rice, wheat and dal; and take fruits and other fasting snacks during this time.This is the recipe of snack which you can have during fasting.
The Navratri season is in full swing, for nine days of fasting, you will need different recipes to serve and relish. So here I am sharing this simple vrat chila which will save your time, as it can be prepared with minimum ingredients.

This is also a good recipe for kids, and you can serve them as after school snack. As this can be made so quickly, kids don’t need to wait for long J

Step by Step Potato Chila recipe:
  1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly and peel them. Soak the potatoes in water, so that it shouldn’t turn brown.
  2. Pre heat the skillet over medium flame.
  3. Grate the potatoes and add lemon juice, salt, chopped green chili, roasted jeera and coriander leaves.
  4. When the skillet is sufficiently hot add ½ tsp oil on it. Now place the potato mixture over it and spread evenly in 4-5 inch round chila with ½ cm thickness.
  5. Pour some drops of oil around the chila and cover it. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame.
  6. By now the chila would have turned slightly brown from the bottom. Flip the side and roast the chila from other side as well until it gets little brown in color.
  7. When the potato chila is roasted from both sides, take it on a plate and likewise prepare rest of the chila.
  8. Serve hot and crispy potato chila with vrat chutney.
If you are not making it during fasting, serve it with tomato sauce or sweet chutney for kids.

Aloo chila- a crispy potato pan cake

INGREDIENTS (measuring cup used, 1 cup=240 ml)
  • 2-3 medium sized potato
  • 1 finely chopped green cili
  • 2 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin seeds/ jeera (optional)
  • ¼ tsp rock salt (or regular salt if not making for vrat)
